Enterprise Showcase | Dauphin Smarts: Empowering manufacturing with an AI "brain", forging a new path for smart manufacturing with a tech "core"

A feature by Yizheng Release on Dauphin Smarts: focused on non-standard metal fabrication, steel structures and petrochemicals, the company's AI autonomous-decision welding system cuts welding error rate by 80% and pushes yield above 97%. Since 2022 the core software has been opened free of charge to domestic robots, and Dauphin has built strategic partnerships with 70% of China's robot makers.

Founded in 2019 and based in the Bajiao Industrial Park of Xinji Town, Yizheng (Jiangsu), Jiangsu Dauphin Smart Manufacturing Co., Ltd. is a technology company dedicated to R&D, design and production of AI-driven processing equipment for non-standard metal fabrication, steel structures and petrochemicals. Amid the rise of smart manufacturing, Dauphin shines as a new star — driven by strong technological innovation and a deep understanding of industry pain points, it has become a key force in the intelligent transformation of processing equipment.

Inside Dauphin's R&D centre, the appeal of technology meeting industry is unmistakable. Two engineers are working intently on an AI autonomous-decision mobile welding robot — moving fluidly and arriving precisely at its target station. To tackle the difficulty of moving heavy steel workpieces and the harsh conditions of outdoor welding, Dauphin's in-house intelligent mobile platform delivers powerful capabilities. By combining multiple vision and path-planning algorithms, it achieves stable and low-cost localisation, allowing the welding robot to plan its own travel paths with no programming.

Just nearby, the floor-rail teach-free welding robot is running a simulated welding operation. A 3D camera scans the seam features; the computer quickly captures key points and rapidly generates an accurate motion trajectory in simulation. Operators just tap the edge to be welded on screen — and the system instantly plans a precise seam path and directs the robot to weld. The whole process is fluent and efficient. During welding, the robot fuses multi-modal sensor data — including molten-pool temperature — with vision AI models to overcome spark interference, sense material characteristics and positional deviations, and dynamically adjust welding parameters and posture for stable quality. Working hand in hand with Dauphin's in-house software and a positioning instrument, manual intervention is dramatically reduced and welding accuracy is held within 2 mm — boosting productivity and quality.

Dauphin's technical edge stems from its own AI autonomous-decision recognition software. Chen Xuan, General Manager of Dauphin Smarts, explains: "Before this software, programming an industrial robotic arm was time-consuming and laborious. Now, equipment fitted with our software, sensors and mobile robot can autonomously approach the workpiece — one click to recognise, capture and weld. Efficiency rises dramatically." Dauphin has also developed an automatic TCP-calibration device for robotic arms that completes fully automatic calibration in 3–4 minutes — far faster and more accurate than manual calibration, effectively solving a long-standing pain point of industrial arm calibration.

Li Xin, Marketing Director of Dauphin Smarts, says: "Our AI autonomous-decision mobile welding robot is the first of its kind in China, designed specifically for non-standard welding. It addresses the 'blind eyes, slow brain, shaky hands, clumsy feet' problems of traditional welding robots by integrating vision, decision-making, execution and mobility. It eliminates programming and teaching, can move autonomously around the shop floor, and tackles real-world issues from the ground up — bringing AI welding robots into millions of factories." Since its founding in 2019, Dauphin has stayed focused on teach-free, programming-free mobile welding robots, ranking among the top three in technology and market share nationwide. Its main customers are end-user factories in non-standard manufacturing; its products are priced 20% below competitors and operate at 3× the efficiency of manual welding — precisely matching the "machine for human" demand of high-risk industries.

Dauphin's AI autonomous-decision welding system integrates a wealth of advanced technologies: from recognising drawing information, to generating welding procedures, to executing the weld with precision — the entire workflow is highly intelligent and automated. Welding error rate is reduced by 80%, yield exceeds 97%, and qualification rates exceed 95% in the complex working conditions of six major industries. Since 2022, Dauphin has opened its core product software free of charge to all domestic robots, and has now built deep strategic partnerships with 70% of China's robot companies.

Looking ahead, Dauphin will keep its focus on R&D of embodied-intelligence welding robots — including molten-pool sensors and humanoid dual-arm robots — pursuing the goal of "find precisely, weld well", and continuing to explore the frontiers of smart manufacturing to inject new momentum into the intelligent development of AI processing equipment.
