On January 16, 2026, leaders from the Yangzhou Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology (hereinafter "Yangzhou Bureau of Industry") and the Yangzhou Shipbuilding Industry Association visited Jiangsu Dauphin Smart Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter "Dauphin Smart") for a research visit focused on the application potential of welding robots in shipbuilding.
The delegation toured Dauphin Smart's test workshop and observed the operation of the "ground-rail welding robot" and the "mobile tank-type welding robot" in person. The ground-rail robot, with high precision and high efficiency, is suited for welding large steel structures, while the mobile tank-type robot solves the pain point of traditional robots that struggle to reach complex seams thanks to its agile mobility. General Manager Chen Xuan explained that the company has implemented "teach-free" operation through 3D vision recognition and other technologies, improving welding quality stability — a point the leaders strongly endorsed.
During the discussion, both sides explored the prospects of welding robot applications. Chen Jinlong, head of the Yangzhou Bureau of Industry, noted that shipbuilding is a pillar industry in Yangzhou, but the traditional welding process suffers from low efficiency and high cost — challenges that intelligent welding robots can help solve. He encouraged Dauphin Smart to deepen cooperation with local shipbuilders and develop customized solutions for complex scenarios such as thick-plate welding and welding of irregular structures.
Chen Jiusong, Secretary-General of the Yangzhou Shipbuilding Industry Association, emphasized the need to improve the compatibility and usability of robots so they fit shipbuilders' multi-variety, small-batch production characteristics, and called for joint action by government, association, and enterprises to build a technology-matching platform.
This visit provided valuable opportunities for exchange. Dauphin Smart said it will increase R&D investment, address hard requirements such as ship welding safety and stability, and build joint laboratories with local enterprises. Leaders from the Yangzhou Bureau of Industry and the Shipbuilding Association agreed that the intelligent upgrade of welding robots is the path the shipbuilding industry must take to move upmarket. Together they will build a "smart manufacturing + shipbuilding" demonstration model and offer the industry a "Yangzhou solution".
